The mission of the Office of Civil Legal Aid is to secure, invest and oversee the use of public funding for civil legal aid to low-income people in Washington State and to ensure accountability for public funds dedicated to this purpose.
The Office of Civil Legal Aid (OCLA) is an independent judicial branch agency. OCLA does not provide direct representation of clients. Instead, OCLA contracts with attorneys throughout Washington State to provide civil legal aid services through a variety of civil legal aid programs.
OCLA’s activities are overseen by the Civil Legal Aid Oversight Committee which is charged with reviewing the performance of the director of OCLA and, as needed, making recommendations to the supreme court, the access to justice board, and the legislature regarding the provision of civil legal aid.
